What are GameHosts and GameMasters?
- GameHost:
-
- A GameHost will usually be the first person you
speak to at Simutronics if you have a technical problem. This position was created to
alleviate some of the burden from the GameMasters. A GameHost is a player who has been
playing the game for a while and has a good amount of knowledge about the game
environment. They usually will have expressed some interest in possibly working for
Simutronics on a regular basis, in the role of a GameMaster. The GameHost is not a paid
position however there are compensations made for the time the Host puts toward the game.
Being that the GameHost is a player, they will not know all the answers to all the
questions that may be asked of them, nor are they supposed to. The GameHost will help
those players who have basic questions and problems find the answers, as most of the
questions have already been asked or answered in one form or another in the Message
Boards, The Simutronics Web Page, or on some player created sites.
What will a GameHost do for you?
- The GameHost will usually be the first to speak to
you about your problem. This is beneficial in many ways, as most problems are not of a
serious nature and do not require the attention of the GameMasters. The host will then be
able to point the you in the proper direction to find the answer to the problem. For
Technical problems the GameHosts have a small assortment of tools to help correct minor
problems, without the aid of a GameMaster.
What if a GameHost cannot answer my question?
- There will be questions, and issues that are beyond
the scope of the GameHost position, If your assist falls into this category, then the
GameHost will prepare a referral to a GameMaster.
-
- In doing so, the GameHost will discuss the
problem, while making notes of all the specific details in a file to be read by a GM. This
helps to speed along the entire process, as the basic groundwork has been completed for
the GM, thus by the time they arrive on the scene they are aware of the problem and can
then focus on getting it corrected as quickly as possible.
-
- GameMaster:
-
- This is the most crucial of roles for the game in
itself, as these people are the ones who create the game, and monitor the overall balance
of the game. They are the ones who do the actual coding of areas, critters, spells, and
other features of the game. Since the creation process is such a complex process, these
individuals need to be able to work in this area with as little interruption as possible.
What if I want to speak directly to a
GameMaster?
- Over ninety percent of all assists that are
processed do not need direct GameMaster interaction, thus they rely upon the GameHost to
help solve the problems that do not require this type of assistance. On technical issues
they will only become involved when the issue has been diagnosed and summarized by the
GameHost, this allows them to continue on their current projects until they are needed to
help with a serious technical difficulty.
